| In the past 6 years, Journal of South China Agricultural University had some bottlenecks in the expert external review process, such as the review willingness of experts was not strong, the distribution of review pressure was unbalanced and the data of expert database was outdated, the source regions of experts were not diverse enough, the proportion of young experts was low. Combined with the development of the disciplines, the editor proposed innovative breakthrough strategies for accurately selecting “small peer” reviewers, such as paying attention to the development of disciplines, making full use of various academic resources, expanding high-level experts with the help of importrant events and high-level authors, engaging young scientists to review cutting-edge, interdisciplinary and timely manuscripts. Through the concentrated practice of the countermeasures, the review willingness of experts is enhanced, the distritution of review pressure is more balanced,the source regions of experts are diversified, the reviewer team is younger, the radiation effect between journals and high-level reviewers is enhanced, the discipline quality of editors is improved and the work ideas are more open. |
