Young scholars serve as the main force in academic innovation. In the current academic environment, scientific journals across various specialized fields actively engage in attracting and cultivating young scholars based on their unique characteristics. This article summarizes the practical pathway for nurturing young experts adopted by the Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery: first, establishing a “selection-cultivation-reserve”talent echelon through the recruitment of young reviewers; second, leveraging the “Gastrointestinal Youth Forum”to create a multicenter collaboration and research platform, integrating resources for collaborative studies; and finally, extending this model to various subspecialties within gastrointestinal surgery, forming a progressive academic ecosystem that fosters synergistic development between scholars and the journal. This approach not only addresses the key challenges faced by young scholars—“limited exchanges, weak capabilities, and fragmented resource”,thereby promoting high-quality multicenter clinical research output, but also helps the journal build academic capacity and alleviate manuscript shortages, achieving mutual empowerment for both scholars and the journal.
