| Based on the relation of literatures' citations, the essential significance of impact factor is discussed in this paper. The derivative significations of impact factor are analyzed in detail. The research result shows that the impact factor of academic journal not only presents its whole signification, but also denotes its literatures' academic level and academic quality of the journal. The impact factor also reveals the information level of the journal authorship. It has a special function for evaluating papers' quality and academic level by qualitative and quantitative methods. The impact factor has become a strong scientific guideline for journal evaluation. |
