| Given that prescriptions on Keywords in Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) are inconsistent with Chinese National Standards, we analyze the feasibility of cancelling Keywords in printed medical journals. We selected 15 well-known medical journals at home and abroad to analyze their instructions for authors and to find out whether all abstracts are followed by Keywords; in addition, we investigated two medical bibliographic databases, PubMed and CBMdisc. We find that Keywords are not necessary to appear after the abstracts in printed edition, but should be added by professional indexers while processing the electronic data. This will be a development trend in medical journals. |
