The editing and proofreading work is one of the core tasks for editors, requiring significant time and effort. However, existing intelligent editing tools often fall short of ideal effectiveness. This study examines the editing and proofreading capabilities of artificial intelligence(AI) tools by constructing a database of error cases. Six widely recognized AI tools both domestically and internationally are horizontally evaluated, including ChatGLM, QianWen, iFLYTEK Spark, ERNIE Bot, 360 Zhinao, and ChatGPT. The evaluation results indicate that AI tools can assist in editing and proofreading work, particularly in areas such as logic and language. However, they are unable to identify political errors and errors in referencing literature, and their capabilities vary in terms of data checking. Overall, the domestica AI tools are better than the ChatGPT. Notably, QianWen and ERNIE Bot exhibit outstanding editing capabilities, while iFLYTEK Spark and ChatGPT demonstrate strong abilities in data checking. Based on the evaluation results, this study proposes recommendations for the application of AI tools in editing and proofreading work. |
