| This paper conducts a thorough and meticulous review of the patient engagement models implemented by renowned international medical journals, exemplified by the British Medical Journal (BMJ). These models encompass initiatives such as the International Patient and Public Advisory Panel, the patient reviewer system, and the Patient and Public Perspectives column. Furthermore, it delves into the explorations and practices undertaken by the Chinese journal Cancer Rehabilitation concerning patient contributions and the dissemination of popular-science content. Building upon these insights, the paper puts forward a progressive developmental trajectory for Chinese medical popular science journals, commencing with the collection of patient narratives and progressively expanding to encompass core elements like peer review. The paper underscores the pivotal role of fostering patient participation in publishing activities in elevating the quality of Chinese medical popular science journals, promoting patient education, and facilitating medical progress, with the ultimate goal of providing valuable references for their sustained development. |
