| To evaluate the development characteristics and publishing experience of leading Chinese-language medical journals under the second phase of the China Scientific Journal Excellence Action Plan, this study takes 26 selected leading Chinese-language medical journals as the core sample, traces their publication scale, academic impact indicators, and publishing features from 2020 to 2024, and conducts a descriptive analysis of the funding transition between Phase I and Phase II. The findings reveal a diversified pattern in publication volume changes among the 26 journals, with over half showing a decline while most journals achieved significant increases in impact factor and total citation frequency. The main types of highly cited papers are guidelines/consensus/standards (approximately 40%–50%) and subject reviews (approximately 23%–30%), together exceeding 70%. This structural feature suggests that clinical normative documents and integrative reviews account for a considerable proportion of the citation composition of current Chinese medical journals. The transition between Phase I and Phase II funding reflects a dynamic balance between supporting established advantages and opening channels for emerging journals. Based on these findings, this study takes Journal of Clinical Hepatology, a leading journal selected in Phase II, as a case example and analyzes its practices from the dimensions of publishing service and knowledge service. Finally, several implications and suggestions are proposed to provide references for peer Chinese medical journals. |
