Collaborative publishing of special topics is one of the effective ways for technology journals and academic organizations to achieve effective synergies. Based on the publishing practice of Science Technology Review, collaborations between comprehensive technology journals and learned societies can be categorized into three types: relying on the society"s council or secretariat, relying on the society"s branches, and relying on academic conferences organized by the society. The specific collaborative models are manifested in four aspects: determining the direction of the collaborative topic, developing detailed publication plans, organizing high-quality reviews, and expanding diversified promotion channels. Through collaborative publishing of special topics with learned societies, the ability of Science Technology Review to serve disciplinary development has been continuously enhanced, its social benefits have been fully leveraged, and its visibility has been significantly increased. The analysis of the citation data of 22 collaborative topics and 148 non-collaborative topics published in the Science and Technology Review from 2016 to 2022 shows that the academic indicators of collaborative topics have not been significantly improved overall, and there are significant differences in the citation data of each collaborative topic. Compared with the other two types of collaboration, the collaborative topics relying on academic activities held by learned societies have poor results. The collaborative topics focusing on the cross-disciplinary cooperation involved in major national strategies have significant effects, while the collaborative topics focusing on the detailed disciplinary fields have poor results. It is recommended that comprehensive technology journals, following the principle of quality over quantity, prioritize interdisciplinary areas involving national major strategies, deeply explore the key scientific issues within them, identify common goals and points of convergence with learned societies, and organize high-quality special topics in a problem-oriented and structured manner.
