This study employed a comprehensive approach, including literature analysis, quality assessment, questionnaire surveys, and website investigations, to systematically evaluate the reporting quality and normative development of guidelines and consensus statements published in Chinese medical scientific journals. It further examined the main existing problems and weaknesses, and explored recommendations and optimization strategies to improve the reporting quality of guidelines and consensus statements and promote the high-quality development of medical scientific journals in China. The findings indicate that the overall reporting quality of guidelines and consensus statements in Chinese medical scientific journals remains relatively low, with notable deficiencies in key areas such as review and quality assurance processes, management of conflicts of interest, and reporting of evidence sources and evaluations. The survey revealed that 65.08% of Chinese medical scientific journals lack institutional policies regarding reporting standards for guidelines and consensus statements, 79.37% of editors have not received training related to such reporting standards, and 96.46% of journals do not provide explicit requirements for the preparation of guidelines and consensus statements in their official author guidelines or submission instructions. Based on these findings, it is recommended that journal publishers accelerate the improvement of relevant institutional frameworks by explicitly incorporating internationally recognized reporting standards into journal submission guidelines. Editors should proactively enhance their methodological knowledge and actively participate in the development of guidelines and consensus statements. Furthermore, systematic training should be provided for editors, authors, and reviewers to establish a multi-stakeholder collaborative mechanism for quality improvement, thereby collectively advancing the standardization, scientific rigor, and transparency of guidelines and consensus statements in China.
